Virginia North LE - Boom times for Richmond area tourism

Conventions have helped drive the tourism boom.
Tourism has seen its best year yet around Richmond, Virginia. According to economic data from the US Travel Association, 2011 saw the highest year-over-year increase in the Richmond region in history.

RICHMOND, VA (Catholic Online) - In 2011, the area saw $20.4 billion in revenues from tourism, an increase of over 8 percent compared to 2010. 

Tourists are flocking to Richmond for conventions and sports, as well as its history. 

This tourism is credited with creating as many as 207,000 area jobs. 

The figures underscore the importance of tourism to the region and the need for continued emphasis on promoting the industry.
