A jury trial for a woman who claimed to be possessed by evil spirits has been postponed because the woman is being treated for mental issues in Michigan.
VIRGINIA NORTH, VA (Catholic Online) - At a hearing, the defense attorney for 40-year-old Titania Michele Smith said she was in a mental health facility in Michigan and that she did not know how she got there.
Smith is expected to plead not guilty by reason of insanity to charges associated with speeding recklessly with two children including an 8-month-old girl and an 11-year-old boy in the car.
Police say she was travelling on I-95 north in Stafford, VA in excess of 100 MPH when she nearly rear-ended a police cruiser. She was also driving erratically and nearly struck a road sign and a semi truck.
When police questioned her, she said she was possessed by evil spirits and that she hadn\'t had her medication for two days. She added that the evil spirits were telling her to flee Virginia.
Her case has been postponed until she can be returned to Virginia.
